In any case, we invite you here to (re) discover its meaning.<\/p><p class=\" translation-block\">The animal world is, in many ways, very different from ours. While we mainly live in a universe made of images and sounds, that of animals is made up largely of odors, to such an extent that we speak of a \u201csphere of odors\u201d: at any point in space, they move in a landscape of odors. Just as sounds and visual images are used to communicate information to the people who perceive them, odors are carriers of information. Since odors are chemical substances, we speak of chemical communication, or semiochemistry.<\/p><p>Cette notion de communication chimique n&rsquo;est pas particuli\u00e8rement nouvelle. D\u00e9j\u00e0 pendant l&rsquo;antiquit\u00e9, les Grecs savaient que les chiens \u00e9taient attir\u00e9s par des s\u00e9cr\u00e9tions produites par des femelles en chaleur. Plus tard, Charles Darwin determina que les odeurs jouent un r\u00f4le d&rsquo;importance, au m\u00eame titre que les signaux acoustiques et visuels, dans la capacit\u00e9 des m\u00e2les \u00e0 attirer les femelles, chez des esp\u00e8ces aussi vari\u00e9es que les \u00e9l\u00e9phants, les crocodiles, les ch\u00e8vres et les canards. Mais <strong>il faudra attendre 1959<\/strong> avec l&rsquo;isolation et l&rsquo;identification de la premi\u00e8re ph\u00e9romone sexuelle (le bombykol), produite par la femelle du papillon du ver \u00e0 soie (le Bombyx du m\u00fbrier), et d\u00e9tect\u00e9e par le m\u00e2le jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 plusieurs centaines de m\u00e8tres gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ses antennes plumeuses caract\u00e9ristiques, pour que le terme \u00ab\u00a0<strong>ph\u00e9romone<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb fasse son apparition.<del><\/del><\/p><p>Les ph\u00e9romones appartiennent \u00e0 cette <strong>grande famille de substances chimiques<\/strong> que l&rsquo;on retrouve dans l&rsquo;ensemble du r\u00e8gne vivant, les <strong>s\u00e9miochimiques<\/strong>.\u00a0 En plus des ph\u00e9romones on y trouve une autre sous-famille, les <strong>all\u00e9lochimiques<\/strong>, qui comprend :\u00a0 les <strong>kairomones<\/strong>, les <strong>allomones<\/strong> et les <strong>synomones<\/strong>. Toutes ont leurs fonctions biologiques propres mais partagent un point commun, celui d&rsquo;<strong>assurer la communication des \u00eatres vivants entre eux et avec leur environnement<\/strong>. Pour cette raison, on les d\u00e9signe aussi sous les termes g\u00e9n\u00e9riques de <em>signaux chimiques<\/em>, d&rsquo;<em>infochimiques<\/em>, de <em>messages chimiques<\/em> ou encore de <em>m\u00e9diateurs chimiques<\/em>.<\/p><p>Le terme \u00ab\u00a0ph\u00e9romone\u00a0\u00bb est d\u00e9riv\u00e9 du grec <em>pherein<\/em>, signifiant transf\u00e9rer, et <em>horm\u014dn<\/em>, exciter, stimuler. Les ph\u00e9romones sont d\u00e9finies comme <span lang=\"fr\"><span data-language-for-alternatives=\"fr\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"auto\" data-phrase-index=\"0\">des substances s\u00e9cr\u00e9t\u00e9es en des quantit\u00e9s infinit\u00e9simales vers l&rsquo;ext\u00e9rieur par un individu et re\u00e7ues par un autre individu de la<strong> m\u00eame esp\u00e8ce<\/strong>, chez lequel <strong>elles vont provoquer une r\u00e9action sp\u00e9cifique<\/strong>, de nature comportementale ou physiologique. Les ph\u00e9romones qui d\u00e9clenchent des r\u00e9actions comportementales sont appel\u00e9es ph\u00e9romones <strong><em>incitatrices<\/em><\/strong> (ou <em>releasers<\/em> en anglais) et agissent instantan\u00e9ment (de quelques secondes \u00e0 quelques minutes). En revanche, les ph\u00e9romones qui modulent des processus physiologiques ont des effets sur le long terme (effets sur la croissance, le d\u00e9veloppement, la maturation sexuelle, le cycle de f\u00e9condit\u00e9, la grossesse&#8230;), sont d\u00e9sign\u00e9es ph\u00e9romones <em><strong>modificatrices<\/strong> <\/em>(ou <em>primers<\/em> en anglais). Certaines ph\u00e9romones peuvent combiner les deux effets \u00e0 la fois. <\/span><\/span><\/p><p>Si les all\u00e9lochimiques assurent l&rsquo;\u00e9change d&rsquo;informations entre individus d&rsquo;esp\u00e8ces diff\u00e9rentes, <strong>les ph\u00e9romones sont \u00e9mises et per\u00e7ues par des individus d&rsquo;une m\u00eame esp\u00e8ce<\/strong> (par exemple entre chats ou entre chiens, mais pas entre chats et chiens). Une autre caract\u00e9ristique essentielle distingue les ph\u00e9romones des autres s\u00e9miochimiques (i.e. les all\u00e9lochimiques). Les ph\u00e9romones sont des <strong>signaux<\/strong> qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 <strong>s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s<\/strong> <strong>au cours de l&rsquo;\u00e9volution<\/strong> pour l&rsquo;avantage adaptatif que conf\u00e8re la r\u00e9ponse (comportementale ou physiologique) qu&rsquo;ils d\u00e9clenchent chez les individus qui les per\u00e7oivent. A contrario, les all\u00e9lochimiques apportent des informations utiles aux individus qui les exploitent, mais n&rsquo;ont pas \u00e9volu\u00e9s pour remplir cette fonction pr\u00e9cise. Par exemple, le comportement d&rsquo;attraction des moustiques a \u00e9volu\u00e9 en r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9mission de CO<sub>2<\/sub> par la respiration de leurs h\u00f4tes et poss\u00e8dent \u00e0 cet effet des r\u00e9cepteurs sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9s tr\u00e8s sensibles. En revanche, l&rsquo;\u00e9mission de CO<sub>2<\/sub> n&rsquo;est pas une caract\u00e9ristique s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9e au cours de l&rsquo;\u00e9volution de l&rsquo;h\u00f4te pour sp\u00e9cifiquement attirer les moustiques. Il s&rsquo;agit, dans ce contexte, d&rsquo;une kairomone, c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire d&rsquo;une source d&rsquo;informations qui apporte un avantage \u00e0 l&rsquo;individu qui l&rsquo;exploite, mais d\u00e9savantageux pour l&rsquo;organisme \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine de son \u00e9mission.<del><\/del><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-394f6da elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"394f6da\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\"><p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"fr\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"fr\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"en\" data-phrase-index=\"1\">Les ph\u00e9romones volatiles des invert\u00e9br\u00e9s sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement d\u00e9tect\u00e9es par des r\u00e9cepteurs d&rsquo;odeurs, tandis que les ph\u00e9romones moins volatiles peuvent \u00eatre d\u00e9tect\u00e9es par des r\u00e9cepteurs gustatifs.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"fr\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"en\" data-phrase-index=\"2\">En revanche, les vert\u00e9br\u00e9s utilisent de petites prot\u00e9ines ou peptides pour la communication ph\u00e9romonale, d\u00e9tect\u00e9s par des r\u00e9cepteurs sp\u00e9cifiques, qui permettent d&rsquo;augmenter le degr\u00e9 de complexit\u00e9 et de sp\u00e9cificit\u00e9 des ph\u00e9romones.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p>On distingue <strong>plusieurs types de ph\u00e9romones<\/strong> en fonction des comportements dans lesquels elles sont impliqu\u00e9es, dont les principales sont :<\/p><ul><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">les ph\u00e9romones sexuelles :<\/span> sans doute les plus connues. Elles jouent un r\u00f4le important dans le comportement et les processus de reproduction en coordonnant les activit\u00e9s reproductrices des individus. Elles sont \u00e9mises par un individu d\u2019un sexe, insecte ou mammif\u00e8re, pour, par exemple, indiquer \u00e0 l\u2019autre sexe une disposition \u00e0 \u00eatre f\u00e9cond\u00e9.<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">les ph\u00e9romones d\u2019agr\u00e9gation :<\/span> essentiellement pr\u00e9sentes chez les invert\u00e9br\u00e9s (mollusques, arthropodes&#8230;). Elles sont \u00e9mises soit par les m\u00e2les soit par les femelles pour r\u00e9unir des individus. Contrairement aux ph\u00e9romones sexuelles qui n&rsquo;attirent que des individus du sexe oppos\u00e9, les ph\u00e9romones d&rsquo;agr\u00e9gation attirent des individus des deux sexes, voire les larves.<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">les ph\u00e9romones \u00e9pid\u00e9ictiques ou d&rsquo;espacement :<\/span> ces ph\u00e9romones sont d\u00e9crites chez les insectes. Si <span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"fr\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"fr\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"en\" data-phrase-index=\"0\">les ph\u00e9romones d&rsquo;agr\u00e9gation signalent qu&rsquo;un site est adapt\u00e9 (pour le repos, l&rsquo;alimentation&#8230;), les ph\u00e9romones \u00e9pid\u00e9ictiques, au contraire, indiquent qu&rsquo;un site comporte des risques de comp\u00e9tition, de dangers et potentiellement de cannibalisme et incitent les cong\u00e9n\u00e8res \u00e0 trouver un autre site. <\/span><\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">les ph\u00e9romones de marquage d&rsquo;h\u00f4tes :<\/span> chez les insectes parasito\u00efdes, les ressources exploitable (i.e., l&rsquo;h\u00f4te) par leur larve sont limit\u00e9es. La d\u00e9p\u00f4t d&rsquo;une ph\u00e9romone de marquage sur un h\u00f4te <span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"fr\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"fr\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"en\" data-phrase-index=\"0\">permet aux femelles d&rsquo;\u00e9viter de pondre un deuxi\u00e8me \u0153uf dans un h\u00f4te dans lequel elle a d\u00e9j\u00e0 pondu, car cela gaspillerait son deuxi\u00e8me \u0153uf et pourrait \u00eatre pr\u00e9judiciable \u00e0 la survie de son premier \u0153uf. Pour la m\u00eame raison, il est avantageux pour les autres femelles d&rsquo;\u00e9viter de pondre dans les h\u00f4tes ainsi marqu\u00e9s, car sinon leur \u0153uf serait d\u00e9savantag\u00e9 par rapport au premier.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">les ph\u00e9romones de territoire :<\/span> on les retrouve chez les mammif\u00e8res et d&rsquo;autres esp\u00e8ces de vert\u00e9br\u00e9s. Les mammif\u00e8res disposent de nombreuses glandes sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es \u00e0 cet effet en plus de l&rsquo;urine et des f\u00e8ces. C&rsquo;est un moyen de marquer leur territoire, de le rep\u00e9rer et d&rsquo;indiquer leur pr\u00e9sence \u00e0 d&rsquo;\u00e9ventuels concurrents.<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">les ph\u00e9romones de piste ou de trace :<\/span> elles sont connues chez les insectes, les fourmis notamment, qui lorsqu\u2019elles vont de la fourmili\u00e8re jusqu\u2019\u00e0 une ressource alimentaire marquent leur itin\u00e9raire, ce qui permettra \u00e0 d\u2019autres cong\u00e9n\u00e8res de suivre la piste. Des ph\u00e9romones de pistes ont aussi \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crites chez des vert\u00e9br\u00e9s (serpent et cerf).<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">les ph\u00e9romones de recrutement :<\/span> ces ph\u00e9romones permettent aux insectes sociaux (fourmis, abeilles, termites&#8230;) de recruter des cong\u00e9n\u00e8res afin de coordonner certaines de leurs activit\u00e9s (collecter de la nourriture, d\u00e9fendre le territoire&#8230;)<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">les ph\u00e9romones d\u2019alarme :<\/span> ce sont des substances lib\u00e9r\u00e9es en cas de blessure ou d&rsquo;attaque, qui d\u00e9clenchent la fuite (pucerons) ou l&rsquo;agression (abeilles) chez les autres individus de la m\u00eame esp\u00e8ce.
